Skeeter Syndrome!

What? Never even heard of it! Sounds like a joke, right? Well, turns out, it is an actual syndrome. A syndrome that can be deadly at times!!! And it appears that my precious VERY SWEET little girl has this. Mosquitos LOVE her and her body HATES them. She reacts terribly to one mosquito bite. Her entire back is red and swollen...research continuing...has anyone else heard of this? Have any experience with it? Help, please. PLeazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzze!

Tyler and i both have it! Be proactive, best thing you can do. Wear bug spray and carry it with you and treat your yard. Don't let standing water stay around anywhere near your house.

My daughter has this also. I was told to give her zyrtec every night. The zyrtec is said to help reduce the red and swelling and also something in acts as a repellant. It has limited the amount of bites she gets because those mosquittos even find her during the day.

It seems that my 3 yr old son has this but i had to do my own research to figure it out. His local pediatrician treated me like a crazy person and referred us to a dermatologist who said he was suffering from hives. Huge understatement! The initial bites resemble cellulits and swell up the size of an orange or bigger and are hot to the touch. within 24 to 36 hrs he is covered in hives on and around the bites. Within 6 to 12 hrs from that he develops dime size spots all over his body that turn to hives. The spots seem to fade and brighten through out the day. When they fade they look like bruises. This last episode started 8 days ago. The dermatologist reccommended zyrtec but didnt recognize his symptoms as being very serious. neither her or the pediatrician has ever heard of skeeter syndrome. I have made him an apt for next week with an allergist that is familiar with
the condition. Any advice we recieve, I will pass to you. There has to be something other than telling your child they cannot play outside.

My 4 year old got bitten on her forehead and withing 3 hours it swole up to a decently large BUMP as if she had fallen and bumped her head. The next morning her eyelid was swollen, almost shut... Now 2 days later after giving he benedryl. The bridge of her nose is swollen. Could this be Skeeter Syndrome. Her symptoms do not seem as severe as the ones I am reading in this blog.

My son is 22 months old and has a history of food allergies and he is also allergic to dogs. Within the last couple of months he has been bitten on three separate occasions and each one is worse. The most recent caused extreme swelling from his elbow to his wrist. It is hot to touch and it has blisters on it. This happened within 12 hrs. I have been to a doc in the box and his pediatrician and neither one mentioned skeeter syndrome but they think it is a mosquito bite. My biggest concern is the next reaction could be really severe. I just feel as if the situation was downplayed and I am going to take it upon myself to go to the allergist and address this issue. Has anyone found out more from an allergist on this subject?? I wish there was more information out there on this subject!!!

Roxy - I know it is upsetting and scary. But, I am pretty sure the only stance to take on this - as I am pretty positive your son has skeeter syndrome - is to either keep them indoors always. (Not gonna happen.) Or, spray with repellent and cover up with clothes, when outside. Benedryl and Zyrtec are the only medications young ones can have to help reduct the reaction...I do believe my little girl is getting a tolerance built up to the mosquito bites...her bites are not as severe any more. But, just pay special attention after an outing to make sure they are not near his head, or neck since he has allergies already. Best of luck! What a nuisance, huh?
