Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and around the world in many cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.....in a celebratory fashion, not in a grieving way.

Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars:

Honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, like the one seen above.

And the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.

This is actually a two day celebration from November 1st through November 2nd.  With the 1st day honoring the "young angels" or children...and November 2nd is more for rememberance of the elderly loved ones.

No doubt I will be honoring and remembering many!  Family and friends, alike.  Everyone from my baby sister, Monica, to my best buddy, Juny...to both of my dad's parents and my mother's father.  From Richard's mother, Dina, to friends that were gone too soon.  Unfortuantely....I have a long list to celebrate.

Take some time.  Light a candle.  Remember the things they loved.  And celebrate them!!!!  Celebrate their life here with us.....and the life they continue to live!

From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity.

~ Edvard Munch

Many blessings....

Such a beautiful custom. I also hope to dress as a sugar skull one of these Halloweens. I first need to to find the time to do some makeup rehearsals. That's some serious makeup artistry, at least for me.

We have an awesome Dia de los Muertos display at my high school (that the Spanish students put together). It's such a good reminder to honor those who've died . . . I have plenty to honor, too. :( But thank you sweet Meli for reminding us to celebrate as well as grieve!
